Making the decision to team up and work with a marketing agency is no small feat.

It can be a challenge answering all the fundamental questions around why your business needs this, who you should ultimately choose to work with, and what you should focus on throughout your time together.

But, before you even get to that point, you should first be asking yourself:

“Am I even ready to team with a marketing agency?”

Signs You’re Not Ready

Just like any business investment – it’s important you go into this prepared and ready to implement any changes deemed necessary and it can be difficult to do this if you don’t already have the foundation in place.

Here are some ways to judge whether or not you’re ready:

No one knows your name

Are you just starting out with your business? Are you still trying to grow brand awareness in the very beginning stages? If yes, then teaming with a marketing agency at this point is probably not the best move for you.

Your email list is empty

Have you decided on an email service provider? Do you have a structured on-going email collection in place? If not, a marketing agency is going to have a challenging task of coming in to work with you at this stage. Growing a vibrant and interested email list should be your first focus prior to teaming up with an agency.

You aren’t making a profit yet

Before you hire a marketing agency, you should definitely be making some sort of profit and be consistently selling your product or service. You want a marketing agency to come in and polish your messaging and processes but you don’t want them to have to help you make your first ever sale.

You are nervous to put yourself out there

If you’re thinking about hiring a marketing agency, you should be absolutely sure of yourself and your product and/or service. You should be networking with appropriate groups, engaging in conversations, and getting visible. You should be ecstatic and ready to increase your marketing and get even more visible. Because if you’re not excited about what you offer to others – why would your potential client be excited?

You don’t know who your audience is or who would be an ideal client

When hiring a marketing agency, you should have your target audience down to a T. This is not the point to continue going back and forth on who it is you would like to target. At this stage you should be laser-focusing on your market and never looking back.

Like, I said – it’s a big feat making the decision to work with a marketing agency. It can also be the best thing you ever do for your business.
